Rodents will eat just about anything, including the grass seed in your garage, or the fertilizer you were planning on using for your lawn. Rodents will find things to eat that aren't even food and can chew through a lot of things in order to get what they want.  Rodents will chew their way into your garage and then, if you have an attached garage, they can get into your home. These pests can cause a lot of damage and then enable other pests to get inside your home to also cause damage and wreak havoc on your home. To help prevent the rodents from getting in your garage in the first place, there are a few things you can do. Read on for helpful tips.

Seal All Seeds

Take all seeds out of the bags they came in and put them into airtight containers instead. The airtight containers will prevent the mice from sniffing out the seeds and the containers serve as a barrier that prevents the rodents and other pests from eating the seeds. Use a heavier plastic container with a tightly fitting lid to store your seeds and other types of lawn care items that rodents may use for food. Any other types of foods that you may store in your garage should also be put into these same types of sealed containers.

Fill In Holes And Cracks

Make sure you protect your garage against these pests by filling in holes and cracks with silicone and concrete caulk where needed. Holes made by rodents should be filled with steel wool to help prevent the mice from being able to chew their way back into their holes again. If they were able to get in once, they will continue to try to get back in. Filling the holes in with steel wool prevents them from being able to chew through it.

Keep Doors And Windows Closed

Keep your doors and windows closed to your garage when you are not using it. Keeping it open opens it up to all types of pests to come inside, and rodents are one of them. Don't leave your garage open all day and night, as pests can easily get inside.

If you have a problem with rodents in your garage, you need to get rid of them before they continue moving through to your home. If you aren't able to prevent rodents in your home or garage, hire a pest control expert to help you.
